Oh well, I don’t always win my own heart either. So, good luck on figuring that out through this blog. As I unfold my thoughts on this post, we’ll see what I got.
Anyway, winning my heart doesn’t necessarily mean it has to be romantic. It could mean I accept you as a friend or someone I can be myself with. Yeah, no matter how authentic I could be, I might look different when you see me being quiet or calm around certain people I’ve just met versus when you know me for who I am.
So, I just had this conversation with Star R-10 last week, that we can get along with each other for more than a quarter of a century because neither of us had to perform around the other. We can sit with each other doing our stuff, like, for example, I’m writing an article while she’s playing Minecraft. When we go out, she can just sit down while I’m wandering around taking pictures. We’re blunt with each other like sisters, just like when I’m with Star C-12.
After a few thoughts, other than her qualities that fit my personality, maybe it’s also people who match my energy, don’t make me feel stupid for asking questions, or remember something I mentioned four months ago because I’m pretty bad at remembering certain things. Also, maybe someone who’s effective and able to deal with inconvenience situations without making it too complicated. Oh and be kind to animals! I hate people who abuse animals as if they’re a lot more superior than those animals, what r u doing? Hitlering?
I finally came to a realization that I don’t know BTS members personally, but somehow they won my heart almost instantly. Apparently, it’s not because they look good. They are, but their faces weren’t my main point of entry. It’s because they’re weird and quirkyyyyyy! I recognized a kind of behavioral language that felt familiar to me (not my usual language, but you get my point), so maybe I just found my men.
Not just the funny traits, but I’m obsessed with their discipline and the way they work effectively as a team, they don’t play around when it comes to their work. These guys take meaning seriously in the art they make. They perform like young beasts, yet they aren’t afraid to show their love to each other. They can be blunt in their lyrics or statements they make, yet I also learned politeness from them.
We might not have similar taste in music, film, series, books, place, or hobbies, and I might not always like the recommendations you give me. But I’d want to understand why you do or what you see in them that I don’t. So, maybe I’ll understand a little more about how you think through the things you choose to love, even when I don’t necessarily love them myself.
These are probably the things that get us started on long, real talks with each other, especially if you notice tiny details, get excited when telling me about something you love, be weirdly enthusiastic about something, be able to laugh at yourself, and absolutely make me feel comfortable enough to stop filtering myself.
So, that’s probably the cheat sheet for becoming one of my people: making ordinary moments feel like I wanna stay a little longer with you. And most importantly, make me feel like I don’t have to perform around you.
